OK, It’s that time of year. Office parties, Christmas parties, family gatherings, deck the halls and all that. You are saying to yourself,”What the heck am I supposed to wear to this holiday party?”
Well, I am here to help you make that decision. But I am going to start with something a little bold. I suggest you start with something a little out of the order for you- a leather or artificial leather skirt!! You may say, “I can’t wear a skirt, my ankles are not my most attractive feature!” If so, I challenge you to try a knee or midi length leather-look skirt. If you just can’t go there, try the same in a pant. Or if you totally say,“No way”, opt for a velveteen pant.
I am over 50, yet the thought of a leather skirt kept coming up for me. So I happened upon an A-line knee length skirt from LOFT, bought it, and it totally rocks. Paired with some black tights and boots, it looks great. Just try it-you might like it! Be bold! The midi length one would work, too, but not on me. I have short legs and a long torso, so it would not be flattering.
Now that we have the base, my suggestion for a top would be a nice soft sweater in gray, camel (see above) or even something with a soft shimmer. A soft creme colored blouse would work, too. The idea is to counter the leather with something soft.
Pair it with a blazer for a work or a fun slim puffer jacket for casual.
Now for shoes. My suggestion is a knee length boot or short booties. Adjust the heel height to what is comfortable for you. Please wear tights, though, in the same color as the shoes, so your legs do not look cut off. If you want to dress it up a little more lady-like, wear a sleek pump.
For accessories, some dangly earrings with some sparkle or you can go classic and wear some amazing pearls. Pearls don’t get enough attention, but you can wear them in a necklace with other textures and it looks great. If you picked the blouse, wear a longer necklace. If you have a blouse with a V-neck, you can wear a shorter necklace. But accessories is wear you can really use your personality.
Back to the velveteen pants – if you picked the more conservative option, you can pair them with all the tops and jackets I mentioned. Velveteen and velvet is back in, ladies!!
A nice alternative to black this holiday season is midnight blue – and it can be worn with black!
What do you think? Can you be bold this season and try something new? Yes, you can!!!
