“It’s Too Hard” To Lose Weight

Happy New Year! I hope that you have had some relaxing time these past few weeks or maybe you have been running around like a “chicken with your head cut off” going to parties and get-togethers.

Either way, you are probably ready to start the new year off with doing something new. Generally, if you are like me, it has to do with taking better care of your body.

Those dinners out, the parties, and the activities often make you feel kind of sluggish, heavy and out of shape.

I get it! Just the couple of days around Christmas with family meals and I felt “off” because I ate foods I don’t normally eat, including the gluten free mint brownies I mentioned in a previous email. And then there were the gluten free blonde brownies a family member made “just for me”, because she thinks I feel left out when the family is devouring Christmas cookies.

Anyway, if you are like me, it’s the new year and maybe you would like a reset to feel better and lose a few pounds. I understand.

But, we all have started many a new diet at the first of the year, only to give up after a few weeks because it was too hard. We feel tired, deprived and out of sorts. Our brains tell us we can’t do it. We WANT to go back to having our chips, cookies, ice cream, wine or whatever we eat or drink to feel better.

There is a reason for this – it has to do with the neurotransmitter dopamine. When we eat processed food and food with sugar, our brains get a dopamine hit which feels good. It’s the same neurotransmitter that makes heroin users feel good.

But may I ask you something?

Have there been times in your life when things have been hard and you have overcome them? The situations may have been hard, but you got through them and learned to handle them. Looking back you were proud of yourself?

I bet you have. We all have.

You got through it because you had a compelling reason. You needed to take care of your family or you wanted to get well and feel better or you wanted something bigger and better.

This is exactly how you can approach losing weight in 2023.

Find your compelling reason – why do want to lose weight? To fit into your clothes again, to have more energy and confidence, to just feel better in your skin, or because you have some health challenges going on? Those are all valid reasons.

When you have your compelling reason, you can always go back to it when you start telling tell yourself “it’s too hard.”

But maybe you know that you need a little help tackling this in 2023. You want some accountability and learn some tools for making this the last time you start a “new year’s weight loss plan.”

If so, schedule a call with me here and let’s start a conversation about your weight loss desires. Or email me at jane@janespringer.com.

You CAN do this in 2023!

In life and health,

Jane
