Sometimes it’s hard to have something to hold on to during a time when you are afraid. Fear and anxiety can multiply if you don’t have a way of calming yourself. Bringing peace to your spirit.
This past week, a close family member had to have a medical procedure that they had been dreading for years. This person does not like being put to sleep and feeling that vulnerable. So we did pray beforehand, they were reading scripture that morning and I was praying during the procedure. That gave us such comfort….The test results turned out just fine and we were so thankful.
Now we are in the middle of experiencing a Category 4 hurricane. There is a lot of fear there beforehand- stocking up on food and supplies, listening to weather reports with the forecast showing the hurricane intensifying. Readying our residence. Trying to figure out where in your house you will go when the winds are the most intense, plus the possibility of tornadoes. Fear and anxiety rising….
What came to me was to find a scripture verse to cling to for the next couple of days. This verse is what spoke to me:
For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Isaiah 41:13
Apparently, it spoke to a lot of others on social media when I posted it. Those words are a solid foundation to hold on to-there is so much more in the Bible that can give you courage in the face of fear. Prayer can work miracles when you are afraid. Just know that you are not alone and you have Someone holding on to your hand through it all.
I’d love to hear your stories of how prayer and scripture gave you courage during a time of fear. Leave a comment below. Also, if you would like to talk with me about your life circumstances, just send me an email at jane@janespringer.com.
