Hunger – Are you really hungry?

Do you know when you are really hungry?

Over the past couple of months, we have had lots of opportunities to eat.  Being at home, watching TV and other inside activities.  There are times when we have been bored, frustrated or lonely.  When that has been the case, we may have been eating more at meals or snacking, even when we weren’t hungry. 

I get it. 

I’ve had my moments of wanting to snack.  I’ve had some challenging emotions going on.  You probably have, too.

But do you know when you are actually hungry?  Can you identify the feeling?  Do you honor it, ignore it, or just eat anytime the desire hits? 

Because we have been snacking or emotionally eating, our bodies may have forgotten the real feeling of hunger. The result may be unwanted weight gain.  

When I work with people on weight loss, they learn a tool that will help them identify when they are really hungry and need to eat and when they are satisfied. 

It’s called the hunger scale.  Knowing when you are hungry and when you are full is key to weight loss.  When you can recognize hunger, you will know when to stop eating and not overeat.  It takes practice, but when you learn it and use it, you can lose that weight.

Your body and brain can re-learn it.
