Is Your Food Beneficial?

pizza 2It may seem like an odd question to ask, but think about it.  Is the food you are putting in your mouth beneficial for you?

I would venture to say maybe not.  What are the foods that are not beneficial?

Processed food.  Added sugar in everything.  Soda drinks.  Starchy carb heavy food.  Fast food.  The list goes on.

For me, it was gluten-free chocolate chip cookies, protein bars that had more sugar in them than some candy bars, dark chocolate covered cashews. Little things that added up.  Even the dairy free, gluten free pizza that I loved.  Not so great.  Heavy on the rice flour and starch.

So what happened?  I developed prediabetes causing inflammation in my body and over-taxing my whole body, definitely not in a good way.

Now, what about you?  What are you eating that may not be beneficial?

What comes to mind for me is scripture verse that makes so much sense.  Here it is:

“Everything is permissible for me, but not everything is beneficial.  Everything is permissible for me-but I will not be mastered by anything.” II Corinthians 6:12

Yes, everything is permissible.  We have a world full of food choices at our fingertips and they are all permissible.  We have freedom of choice.  But….

Not everything is beneficial.  Obviously.  Poor diet accounts for so many health problems in the world today. Maybe you have high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, or joint problems because of too much weight.

What if we shifted our thinking to the second part of the verse: Everything is permissible for me-but I will not be mastered by anything?  What if we decided that although everything is permissible, we will not be mastered by anything?  Not sugar, not flour, not cupcakes, not cookies, not pizza, not ice cream, not fast food?

What if we made some different choices, so that those foods did not have any power over us anymore?  No more guilt, no more shame sneaking food, no more belly roll, no more muffin top, no more bloating, just feeling energetic and healthy again?

That sounds like FREEDOM to me, how about you?

Will you be master over your future?  Master over poor choices?  A future where you can be strong and a leader in your family setting a good example for your children and grandchildren.

Think about it. Is your food beneficial?  Make it so.  You can do this.
