The 2nd Key to not Gaining Weight after 50

Last week I wrote about why it is not inevitable that women over 50 have to gain weight.  I believed this myth and that is why I want to bust it.

The first reason you do not have to gain weight is a matter of changing the way and how much you eat.  This week I will share the second key to not gaining weight after age 50.

And that is to change your thinking.

For example, if you have the thought “It’s natural for women over 50 to gain weight”, then the feeling you get from that thought is perhaps “resigned.”  The action you take from that feeling is to continue the way you have been eating – too much and including food with sugar and flour, like processed foods.  The result of that action can be that you continue to inch upward in weight.  Your results always point directly back to your original thought.

You see the way this works.  I have written and spoken about changing your thoughts in several blog posts – here and here.

The good news is you can change your thoughts.

Now, what if you chose not to believe that thought?  What if you decided that gaining weight after 50 does not have to be true and you could change your thinking?  It could be quite liberating and inspiring.

So let’s look at the thought model on this.  Let’s say you decided to think, “I have control over what I weigh by changing my thoughts and eating habits.”  You decide the thought that will work for you.  Your new feeling could be inspired or liberated (you decide the feeling).  As a result of that new feeling, your new action might be to go shopping for healthy whole foods,  reduce the amount of sugar you are eating, reduce your portion sizes, skip dessert, you add some more….Then the result would be to  finally lose that weight that you have been slowly putting on since you turned 50.

So this week, why not try to change the way you think about the inevitability of gaining weight after 50?  It’s not a done deal.

I was able to change the way I ate and my thinking, even after age 60! It is possible. Make this the time you will work with your very smart brain to get the results you want.  You can totally do this!
