These are unprecedented times. We’ve never been through anything like this with the corona virus.
So many thoughts and questions going on in our minds.
Will we be in lock down?
How will we get food?
What about my work? and money?
Are we going to get sick?
How am I going to manage this?
I know these are some of your thoughts, because these have been my thoughts, too.
It has been so easy to drift into anxiety over everything. The news definitely doesn’t help.
This morning I went to the grocery store when it opened. There was plenty of food, but still I found myself having to slow down and not race around grabbing food. I had to take some deep breaths to s-l-o-w it down.
Has this been you, too? Has worry and anxiety threatened to take over your brain? It’s so easy to slip over into scarcity mentality.
What can we do about it, so that we don’t become basket cases over this virus? Now more than ever it is critical to take care of our health. I suspect it is going to be a long haul. We need to figure out a strategy.
Recognizing that our thoughts are what create our feelings, our feelings drive our actions and our actions create our results is the key to managing our brains in this crisis.
For instance, I have recognized that when I am feeling anxious, I want to eat. I want that dopamine hit from the dark chocolate really bad.
I recognize that the thought, “How are we going to do this without getting sick?” creates anxiety in my body and brain. The action I want to take is to head for the cupboard. But I know I need to keep myself in the most healthy condition right now. I can’t take a chance on becoming prediabetic again or lowering my immune system by eating foods that don’t serve my body.
I can go for a walk outdoors, I can wait 10 minutes, I can drink herbal tea. There are lots of ways I can manage my thoughts , feeling and actions.
What action could you take to create a new feeling and new thoughts?
When we can examine our thoughts and feelings, have compassion for ourselves, and figure this thing out, we can calm our brains down and move forward with confidence, until this crisis is over.
This is what I help my own brain and my clients brains with every day. That is how I can serve myself and them best.
