The title for my blog, Spring of Living Water, came to me as I was contemplating where the source of my faith originates, Jesus, and the story of the Woman at the Well (John 4:1-34). This is a story about a Samaritan woman who had gone to the well to collect water in the hottest time of the day to avoid the whispers of the women of the town. She felt ashamed of her life and the fact that she had had 5 husbands and was living with another. She encountered Jesus, who was tired and had sat down to rest next to the well.
He asked her for a drink of water and in the course of the conversation He told her He could offer her living water, better than the water at the well.
Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water…….“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:10, 13-14
He goes on to reveal that he is the Messiah. The woman said, “I know that the Messiah (called Christ) is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.” John 4:25-26
Read the whole story for yourself – it’s awesome! He knows everything about her past and still He offers her the living water that will quench her thirst. I know that this water that Jesus offers is the only water that can fill me up and lift me up. There are other places in scripture that refer to the living water (read John 7:37-38, Rev. 21:6). It seemed appropriate that my blog should point to Jesus and the spring of living water that only He can offer us. We are the lighthouse and He is the Light!
